New Podcast.."Idol Looks" Now Available...

What is the "Idol Look" and who has used it to their advantage. In the six seasons of Idol, two come to mind. That, and a strange reference to the King of Pop. Check out the podcast site listed on the right. You can also click to http://idolthoughts.mypodcast.com

Aaaah, Make Way for the Incredible, Reappearing....oh never mind...

Once again, as it seems to be this year on Idol, what the rest of America hears and what my ears are hearing seems to be off. I'm not sure what it is, oh wait...I got it...over twenty eight million votes last night and seven to eight million of them voted for Sanjaya because he's "cute" and deserves another opportunity to be meager and ordinary on a show that at this point is totally and completely NOT about being meager and ordinary. Not to mention the eight million of them that voted are most likely giddy thirteen year old girls, which no one can compete against.
Another person with promise was taken down last night, although he was falling off in recent weeks, but he should have known he needed to do better and NOT forget the words. Brandon was axed last night, but I don't think he's too worried. He had the opportunity to show off his talent on the national stage and gain some exposure. He already has a deal with a record company, as a backup singer. It's just a matter of time for him.
Ok, enough on that...there was plenty of promise to go around this week. The person that helped herself the most this week was Jordin, and last night she looked great with straight hair. Haley was a close second, she had some great poise on the big stage the other night.
In the podcast for the upcoming weekend, "Idol Looks", what the show does to and for people's image. A look into past "Idol Looks" successes, and an unexpected Michael Jackson reference. I've also moved "Idol Musings" up for those who haven't heard it. The topic is potential Theme Weeks on this season's Idol. Some good, some not so good.
Check out the podcasts on the top right and have a great weekend!

Female Vocalists, Male Singers and "The VO5 Vote"

Well, if last night is any indication a cat fight may break out between the Ladies this season in order for a winner to be named. With their performances many showed that they did belong. There were a few that I did not understand as far as song choice, and more on that in the podcast. Some even played it 'safe' last night, and with a new stage and bigger audience the nerves did show.
I feel bad for Blake, he used his own insight and creativity in remaking a great song, the vocal was alright, however the judges totally lambasted his version of the song. Isn't Idol about making the point to be original and standout. I've heard that phrase from day one, and Blake now stands out, if we could only make the boy sing a song that was familiar to more than 5% of the Nation that would be great. A solid start to that this week for him.
Haley and Jordin really added to their popularity and stepped up their game last night. Great poise on both of their parts. For those that forgot their words, there is NO excuse. This is Season 6 and you have to to better than that, it is expected of you.
Who's headed home? I think that Sanjaya isn't getting enough attention, and I fear that if he sticks around another week, he may shave his head or go into rehab. He was the poorest performance of the night, but may get enough votes from his hair that he will survive till next week. Chris Richardson was upbeat, but I fear he may be at risk of heading home. Perhaps it will be Stephanie? It is early enough in the season for a few 'Shock Lack of Voting' Exits...Phil, Stephanie, and Brandon may also be on the chopping block.

Idol Thoughts Top 12(6-1) Week 1: Diana Ross Tribute Week

Phil Stacey is next...he, like Haley should be looking for a solid performance this week, yes it's Diana Ross, but it's gotta be better than LeAnne Rimes. (for his sake, I hope so)
Phil, "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me", much better pitch this week from last week, good stage movement, the band is keeping it down, I'm really hearing some nice vocals from Phil tonight, like the sax touch. He's comfortable and seems to be having fun. Judges: Randy, gets voice award for the night. Paula, vocals were good, needs to be more uptempo. Simon, chose the right tempo, it was okay, good song choice. It wasn't outstanding, wasn't awful.
It's good to hear some of these songs redone, it's been a while, even though when most of them were done before I was born, I still know the music. Lakisha next.
Lakisha, "God Bless the Child", her vocal is always going to be great, and is again tonight, she has some great stage presence, make the record, I'll buy it tomorrow. Judges: Randy, perfect song choice, unbelievable vocal, sensational. Paula, beautiful performer, heart comes through when you sing. Simon, you've either got it or you haven't got it, and you've got it. the quality difference between you and Melinda...you two are in a different league...I agree with Simon, it was a great performance..coming up..Blake Lewis..I've been looking forward to see what Blake was going to do for the last week.
Blake, "Keep Me Hangin' On", I like the risk he's taking with changing the song...I'm impressed...very comfortable on stage. I like the mix, good vocals tonight. Best male performance and best energy too...crowd is up and Paula is rockin' out. I liked the acapella touch...WOW! Judges: Randy, let the classics be the classics. Paula, a real good singer Simon, didn't get it at all. the three judges tonight say Don't mess with the classics. I disagree, I thought it was totally original, and the vocal was decent. The whole point of this show is to be original and standout from everyone else, and Blake did that tonight...Stephanie next..
Stephanie, "Love Hangover", solid performance from Steph, good vocal, good stage presence, nice note at the end. Good energy tonight. Judges: Randy, good vocal, strong finish, perfect choice for her. Paula, strong vocals, strive for better. Simon, strange arrangement of the song, sang the intro, didn't close well. Chose the wrong song. I thought she did a decent job, she should be okay for next week. Chris Richardson next...
Chris Richardson, "The Boss", okay on the intro, seems a tad nervous, good tempo tune for him, aah the first to work the runway behind the judges this year. He's got the audience involved, solid performance from him. Judges: Randy, overdid it a little bit, was half and half. Paula, out of all the guys, brought contemporary the best. Simon, thought the vocals were dreadful if you took out his charm and personality...I wasn't familiar with the song, I thought he was pretty solid...Jordin closes the show...
Jordin, "If We Hold on Together", she has some poise on the stage tonight, more so than some of the guys, she's holding her own and sounds pretty solid. She seemed a bit pitchy, like she is yelling into the mic. She's having some fun out there. Nice close to the show. Wow. Judges: Randy, so impressed with you, tonight just made it a three girl race. Paula, a breath of fresh air, drew me in right away with the song. Simon, a bit gooey, very very good vocal, absolutely put herself in with a shot of the finals.
Overall a good night with Diana Ross tunes. Back with a recap in a bit...Jordin stepped it up big time and do I need to say anything about Sanjaya?...

Idol Thoughts Top 12(12-7) Week 1:Diana Ross Tribute Week

Alright, the “Fro Patrol” sign was clever…Sanjaya’s look tonight…a Perm? Perhaps he’ll have a Michael Jackson “Pepsi” accident and be bald next week. Nice piece on Diana Ross and off we go with Brandon.
Brandon, “Can’t Hurry Love”, great stage presence..like the look, fits the song. He seems like his tempo is off from the band. OUCH…forgot the words, or missed from the tempo..well looks like Sanjaya’s safe and he hasn’t even performed yet..BIG stage, something to get used to…Judges: Randy, forgot the words Paula: nerves, many things he does right Simon: complete letdown, very predictable version, dancing was terrible. No star quality, no originality…I feel I have to agree with Simon…Melinda next. But before, gotta love the Idol banter…
Melinda, “Home”, nice entrance, good stage presence, her notes are on, very soulful performance, great performance, we’ll see but that’s gonna be tough to beat. Judges: Randy, still really strong, was hot. Paula, feeling so much joy, so excited, this is it(need I mention Paula is falling apart. Simon, remind me of a young Gladys Knight, very good. Melinda seems shell shocked that she actually hit the notes that she hit and she sounded great. Again, gonna be tough to beat.
Chris Sligh, “Endless Love”, liked Diana’s thought about finding the melody. We’ll see..seems a tad nervous on the “big stage”..the arrangement of the song is interesting, managed to pull it through in the end I thought. Tough song for his ‘Rock’ voice. Seemed a little “show tuney”. Judges: Randy, not worry about the sound, was a mess. Paula, worry less about trying to fit into something contemporary. Simon, took song and turned it into a drone. Unemotional, uninspiring, keep the glasses…Gina next…
Gina, “Love Child”, good stage intro, on key, solid stage presence, liked how the band gave her some good mic time by bringing it down a little. Song fits her voice well. She did a solid job. Judges: Randy, it was pitchy, didn’t feel any excitement. Paula, feel good, much better than how she did tonight. Simon, wasn’t terrible or fantastic. Chose the right song for her, is a little forgettable….Gina did the right song for her voice, but seemed to play it safe, a good idea to get used to the crowd, but she shouldn’t do it too often. Sanjaya up next.
Sanjaya, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, well, seems like he’s grown up a little, but is struggling with the stage a little. Vocally he’s okay, nowhere NEAR Melinda..Judges: Randy, wasn’t very good. The hair is rockin, Hair idol he’d be great. Paula: you smile and it warms people’s hearts. Simon: when you hear a wail in Beverly Hills, that is where Diana Ross is watching this show. Very brave…it’s tough for Sanjaya, the guy is seventeen and I don’t think has come into his voice yet...Haley next…
I hope that Haley rebounds from the poor performance from last week. She is lucky to have a place in the Top 12 and I think she knows it.
Haley, “Missing You”, great song for her..could potentially be the best of the night. It’s an okay start for her, ouch, flubbed the words, not good. It’s funny what the big stage does to performers, the long note was nice. I’m disappointed with her tonight, she knows she could have done better. Judges: Randy, gave it a valued effort, sounded nervous, was pitcy. Paula, look lovely tonight, still adorable. Simon, didn’t think it was that bad, think she had real presence, looked like a star, nerves got the best of her. Thanks Simon for making Haley’s night. He’s spot on though, her best is yet to come, minus the nerves.
Six down, six to go Phil is next…back in a sec…

Gettin' Set for Diana

Another night of Idol is upon us..looking for the ladies to shine tonight..some of the guys may have some trouble..looking forward to hear what the 'coach' has to say to Sanjaya...back shortly with the first six performances.
